Fonts

The fonts text layers and subtitles can use, the scripts each one covers, and their licences.

A text layer and subtitles name their font by id in font; inter is the default. GET /v1/fonts lists the same fonts without an API key, and so does the MCP tool list_fonts. In a command, drawtext names a font by its file (Command rules) and subtitles by its family (FontName=Open Sans).

Licences#

Every font is licensed under the SIL Open Font License, Version 1.1 (opens in a new tab), and is used unmodified.

Characters#

A text may use letters, marks, numbers, punctuation, symbols and spaces, and \n to break a line (at most 6 lines and 500 characters). The font must have a glyph for every character: a character it cannot draw is 400 invalid_request with the pointer of the text, naming the character's code point. Each font covers its scripts in full, with their punctuation and common symbols. Bebas Neue is an all-capitals typeface.

A subtitles file is read when the job runs, not when it is created, so its characters are not checked: one the font cannot draw is drawn in another font of the list that has it (Greek in poppins comes out in Inter), or as an empty box when none has it.

Chinese, Japanese and Korean, Arabic, Hebrew, the scripts of India and emoji are not available yet.
